Obscene Utley.

This should be Chase Utley
Open wide, Chase.

Before moving to Shibe Park in 1938, the Phillies played at the Baker Bowl, which was a pretty bad ballpark (check the links, each different). The Baker Bowl is now a car lot on Broad and Lehigh in Philadelphia. The 60′ RF fence used to have a sign that said “The Phillies use Lifebuoy” and the joke was that people would say “The Phillies use Lifebuoy….and they still stink!”, especially in those 1920s and 1930s seasons when the Phils truly were horrible.

Now that Lifebuoy could be used for a different purpose. For Chase Utley’s mouth. Utley, who said, on the air, “Boo? F**k You” at the Home Run Derby at the All-Star Game this year (NY’ers in the crowd, maybe Mets fans, who knows, booed Utley when he was introduced) has dropped the F-Bomb again. On live TV and Radio, again. When he got up to speak to the fans at Citizens’ Bank Park yesterday after being in the victory parade, Utley’s first words were “World Champions! World F***ing Champions!” The Philly TV and radio stations carrying the event live were forced to immediately put an apology on the air. I wonder how many kids heard that? Either at the park or through radio or television?

Classless, Chase. Here’s the soap.

I wish I could remember the pitcher in the Series or the playoffs this year who gave up a big hit and put his glove over his face as he barked a curse almost involuntarily. “That took some respect for his fans,” I thought. Conversely, Utley has time to ponder his team’s accomplishment and maybe even make new baseball fans out of casual observers and lets fly with that. Totally classless.

Reading the latest story on the Post website is that the Yanks might not pick up Martes option.
