Thank goodness it wasn’t worse.

Oh to be half the age I am now, with the fame and fortune (and what looks to be even more fame and fortune to come) as Joba Chamberlain.

With that, however, comes pitfalls. It’s hard resisting those pitfalls at the age I am now. At half that age, it’s tougher. Just because one ages, doesn’t necessary mean they mature. We’ve seen that all too often.

DUI isn’t a laughing matter. Most of us probably have been affected by it one way or another. Maybe we made this mistake in the past ourselves. Maybe we know someone who received a DUI. There are too many of us who may know people seriously injured or killed as a result of a DUI.

Let’s hope Joba learned a lesson here. It could have been worse. All one has to do is go back to late December/early January in this blog’s archives to see what I was writing about then—the DUI arrest of Jimmy Leyritz, in which a young lady was killed in the accident. Besides the DUI, I’m also a bit disturbed at Joba’s hangout that night. I can’t tell the young player where to go or how to live his life, but that establishment isn’t conducive to a pro-faith, pro-family lifestyle. Of course the life of a ballplayer, being on the road so often, is not conducive to family life. One hopes Joba settles down, finds a good young lady (not a golddigger and as far as Joba’s nipple rings go, …. um …. wonder who’ll wear the nipple rings in that family???) and cleans up his act a bit.

Being young, rich and having it go to your head isn’t a crime. Being DUI is. Luckily this mistake didn’t turn out fatal. Live and Learn, Joba.

An interesting piece of information has now come out. Had the Red Sox come back in the late innings of Game 7, Jonathan Papelbon, he of the 0.00 postseason ERA, would not have come in to close out and save the game for Boston. His shoulder was barking. The closer would have been Dice-K.

Winter ball: AFL: Juan Miranda 14 for 31 (.452), 6 doubles, 2 triples, 1 HR, 7 RBI.
Kevin Russo 9 for 29, .310-0-3; Austin Jackson 9 for 39. .231 (2 doubles, 2 triples) -0-7.

Hawaii: Damon Sublett 11 for 38, .289-1-11; Austin Romine 7 for 26 .269-0-2.

Update on pitchers once they get a little more work in.

I hope he learns his lesson. Fame does not mean invincibility. Far to many family members(one of mine) are buried much too young because someone didn’t know when take a cab. More unfortunate is it’s usually the other person in the accident that gets the worse of the accident. Off topic but interesting I read that Peavy all of last year only made 7 outs past the 6th inning all of last year. He was mainly a 6 inning pitcher this past year, and that doesn’t bode well when going from Pitcher friendly Petco in the NL west without the DH, to the AL East with the DH.

i’m as upset that joba was driving under the influence as you are-chances are this isnt the first time he’s done it–just the first time he was caught. lets just hope that this will teach him a valuable lesson and prevent anyone from getting hurt or killed in the future.

i dont know where joba was hanging out that night. what was it?
i certainly don’t care whether he or any yankee hangs out in a “pro-faith, pro-family” promoting venue. do you think atheists and non married people are more likely to drive drunk?

i’m sorry if i sound confrontational but that just pissed me off.

He was at one place where he had a few, then went to a topless bar and, I would guess, had a few while ogling the young ladies. Apparently he was heckled by some Red Sox fans and there almost was a confrontation there. Joba stormed off and when he drove off in a huff then got busted.

Hey, I got hormones, like the ladies and it’s tempting, but that’s not a place for someone to be.

The DUI is bad enough. But he also shouldn’t hang out in places like that.
