I hope Cashman doesn’t have pet rabbits.
Reading the NY Post today, I come across King, George A. III’s article on Hank Steinbrenner. The subtitle reads, “I’m still in charge here!”
This from a guy who attended, what, TWO games this year?
It reminds me of Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction, when she hollers “I will NOT be ignored!”
One quote from Hank: “There is one very important point here. The most important thing to remember is this: If you didn’t get it from me or my brother (Hal) it doesn’t mean (anything). I don’t care about some piss-ant employee. If you didn’t get it from me or Hal, it’s meaningless. …”
What if we get it from Cashman? Is HE a “piss-ant employee”?
The rope is out. All we have to do is bind and gag Hank.
Or, as in Fatal Attraction, have the wife shoot him.
Just kidding, of course. But Hank? Shut up. Please shut up.
Mike Vaccaro, in talking Mets trades, says that in the case of several, that they didn’t go back haunt the Mets in the worst way possible, but I wonder what he is getting at. Yeah, some guys didn’t win WS after the Mets traded them, but still…
He states that Ryan only made the playoffs twice, and one of those times he was eliminated by the Mets. HUH???? Ryan was on the 1979 Angels, who lost the ALCS to Baltimore. He was on the 1980 Astros, who lost to the Phils in the NLCS. The Astros lost to the Dodgers in the 1981 NLDS. Then there was the 1986 NLCS vs. the Mets. What happened to 1979-1981, Mike?
He accurately states that Seaver, by 1977, pitched in all the WS games he would ever pitch in. The only postseason Seaver had after 1973 was in 1979 with the Reds. (Damn that 1981 strike, in which the split season hurt the Cards and Reds).
He mentions Amos Otis and says that by the time KC won the series, Otis was a year into retirement. But I still don’t see his point. He is talking about these trades and only WINNING the Series? Otis helped KC to the ALCS in 1976-1978, getting hurt in his 1st AB of the 1976 ALCS. He helped KC to the WS in 1980. They made the playoffs in 1981, losing in the ALDS. Otis hit 3 HR in the 1980 WS, in which he hit .478.
I don’t see Vaccaro’s point here. Only the WS and not leading their teams to the postseason? Esp. when, from 1977-1983 the Mets sucked? Huh?
