Game 130. Yanks win 8-7, sweep Orioles.

Back from a weekend excursion in time to catch the Yanks 8-7 win over Baltimore. Yanks go to 70-60, and remain 5 back of Boston for the WC slot. Of course, the Yanks would have to pass BOTH Sox (or Boston and the Twins) to gain the WC slot. Forget the division, where the Yanks are still 9 1/2 out, even after picking up a game today. From here on out, we talk about WC only.

Short recap, as I am tired. When on trips, I usually don’t sleep well the first night away. Doesn’t matter where I am or what hotel, retreat house, friend’s place, etc. or how far I’ve gone.

Damon hit a 3-run HR and the winning blow was a HR by Robbie Cano. Edwar gets the win despite giving up the game-tying HR. The Yanks had blown a 5-2 lead. Mo gets save #31 the hard way, giving up a two-out walk, then a SB and E put the tying run on third before Mo’s K ended the game.

Cano was 4 for 5. 2 doubles, HR. 2 RBI. Nice, considering his HR of Friday night. Nady had 2 RBI. Abreu was 3 for 4 after a 5 for 5 Friday.

Rasner was roughed up and knocked out in the 4th. Robertson and Ramirez were so-so. Marte (finally) and Mo were the stars, going 1 1/3 each and combining for 5 Ks.

The Yanks are off tomorrow, then have a three game series at home vs. Boston starting Tuesday. They will miss Beckett, but face Wakefield, just coming off the DL. 5 back of Boston with 32 to go? The Yanks need to sweep. Pettitte, Ponson and Moose. You wish they had Wang and Joba, but for now, those 3 are the best they have.
