AAA: I went out to Coca-Cola Park to see Phil Hughes pitch and give a report to YFCR. While we were all hoping he would do well and get called up to pitch in Baltimore next Saturday, it doesn’t look like that will happen. Phil was knocked out after 3 2/3 IP, 5 R on 8 hits, no walks, 4 K. He needs to stay at AAA a bit longer. SWB won 9-6. Chad Moeller went 4 for 5, and Nick Green and Juan Miranda (3 hits, 3 RBI) each homered. Eric Duncan had 3 hits. The Yanks ran the bases like drunken sailors, as four baserunners were thrown out, three by the RF. There was also a CS. For a while, SWB had the most expensive AAA first base coach ever—Igawa. Melky walked FOUR times. Shelley Duncan had two doubles. For Lehigh Valley, Kris Benson started, 5 1/3 IP, 5 R, 4 ER, 10 hits. Neither he or Hughes is ready yet.
AA: Old #45, the Boy in the Bubble himself, MIA for most of four years went. 11-7 win for Trenton, but C. P. pitched well. 6 IP, 1 R, 6 hits, 1 walk, 6 K. Kevin Whelan pitched the 9th, gave up 4 runs to make the score closer than it was. Trenton had an 11-1 lead after 7 1/2. Edwar Gonzalez 2 HR, 3 RBI. Kevin Russo 4 for 4. Colin Curtis double, HR, 4 RBI.
A+: 4-3 win for Tampa. No Matsui, as he was with the Yanks Sunday and will be activated on Tuesday. Alan Horne started, 3 R in 3 IP. Zach McAllister 4 shutout innings of relief for the win. 2 RBI for Tim Battle.
A: 9-5 win for Charleston. Austin Krum 3 doubles, 4 RBI.
Switch pitcher Pat Venditte picked up his 16th save in a 2-1 Staten Island win. ERA 1.05.
