AAA: SWB lost 7-4. Alan Horne, just off the DL, showed his rust. 1 IP, 5 R, 2 H, 5 walks, 2 K (1-2, 5.63). What a lost year for the 2007 Eastern League Pitcher of the Year. Chris the forgotten “Great” Britton pitched 3 scoreless innings, K’ing 5. (1.80). Traber went 2 scoreless, Strickland (2.19) a scoreless. Cody Ransom (Sept. callup?) hit his 20th HR. Ben Broussard added a solo shot.
AA: Trenton lost 3-1. Reliever Mike Gardner was thrust into the starting slot and gave up 3 in 3 1/3 (3-4, 3.12). Phil Coke pitched 2 scoreless innings of relief, striking out 3. Coke has been moved to the bullpen as he is nearing his innings limit for the year. (2.53). Jim Cooper was 2 for 2. Recently C P. J. Pilittere broke his nose when a foul pop skimmed off the backstop screen and ricocheted into it.
A+: Tampa won 6-5. Jason Stephens 1 R in 6 IP (3-4, 5.16 at Tampa). Andres Perez HR, 3 RBI. Josh Kreuzer 2 RBI.
Phil Hughes and the unmentionable #45 (you know who it is) are starting rehab for Charleston tonight (Tuesday).
A: Charleston was shut out 6-0 on just one hit—by Austin Krum. Hickory’s Matt McSwain had a no-hitter for 8 innings, then was pulled. Krum’s single off Serguey Linares came with two outs in the 9th. Charleston’s Lance Pendleton gave up only 1 run in 7 IP (6-7, 3.43).
