All Things Must Pass
As the man sang, All Things Must Pass.
The Yanks’ winning streak is stopped at 7.

Recap: Edison Volquez of the Reds came into the game 9-2, 1.64 and 105 K in 88 IP. He outdueled Moose, as the Reds won their fourth straight game at Yankee Stadium. This was the Reds’ first interleague visit to the Bronx. The Yanks last win over the Reds in the Bronx was when Whitey Ford shut out the Reds 2-0 in Game 1 of the 1961 World Series. Howard and Skowron homered. The Reds won Game 2 behind Joey Jay before the Series switched to Crosley Field, where the Yanks won all three games. In 1976, the Reds swept the Yanks in the Series. Moose gave up three runs in the fifth, all with two out, and that was his downfall.

Sorry for the brief notes. I had to put a drop in my eye every hour. Pink eye.

Good to see Matsui back.

I woke up with “pink Eye” this morning and barely made it through a painful day at work (must have got it from Wilson Betemit). Feel free to comment, but I am sorry I won’t be joining you. I saw the optometrist right after work and have to go back tomorrow morning. I’ll try to have a brief recap (it’s a My9 game, so I can watch it) as well as a minor league report.

Pete Abraham reports that Ian Kennedy has a rehab game scheduled for Monday. He’ll throw 50 pitches for the GCL team, and that he also heard from Phil Hughes. Hughes will start playing catch on Wednesday. He has started lifting weights. So good news for both. As for Bruney, he threw a 30-pitch bullpen today and did some running in the outfield for the first time since he was injured. So that’s two bullpens for Bruney. “It’s going to take some time but I’m getting there,” he said.

Gibbons fired by Toronto. Cito takes over. Why didn’t Cito ever get a job after getting canned the first time by Toronto? All he did was win back to back WS.
Schilling out for the year. Needs shoulder surgery. Suzyn reports that he says that on a scale of 1 to 10, he feels that coming back is a 3. Hey, he has that much more time to blog.

Catch you later.
