Pinstripe Prospects: The Minor League Report.

Notes:
As far as the big club is concerned, they were 6-11 without Alex, and are 20-9 since he has returned. An MVP showing why he won that award three times.

With Giese starting on Saturday, the long reliever is now “Sadie” Hawkins.

Ponson was 4-1, 3.88 for Texas, but his off-the-field problems (booze) are very problematic. In 2006 he started three games, relieved in two more for the Yanks. He was 0-1, 10.47. Lovely. First of all, Cashman must have a short memory regarding what Ponson did in 2006 (although he says he is throwing better now than then…he couldn’t be worse! I mean, 10.47?) Secondly, his personality. Alcohol trouble. NY. Ummm….

The Short-Season league has started at Staten Island (1-2 entering tonight). Usually I don’t check that far down (4 levels is enough!). GCL Yankees (rookie league) was to have started tonight, but PPD (same here re: checking this far down). Luke Greinke lost for S.I. the other night. He is the younger brother of the Royals Zack Greinke. Luke was a 12th round pick of the Yanks in this year’s draft.

AAA: SWB lost 4-3. Alan Horne gave up 4 R, 3 ER in 6 IP (2-1, 3.70). I believe it was only his third start since coming back from the DL. David Robertson (when will he be in the Bronx?) 2 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 2 walks (umm), 1 K. ERA at AAA? 1.91. Juan Miranda (just off DL) 2 hits. Shelley Duncan and Nick Green with HRs (Shelley, where were those in the Bronx?)

AA: Trenton lost 7-3. Phil Coke 5 R, 4 ER, in 6 IP. (4-3, 3.27). An off-night for Mark Melancon. 2 R in 2 IP (1.75 at AA). P. J. Pilittere 3 hits, double, RBI, .290.

A+: Tampa lost 6-3. Grant Duff 5 R in 6 1/3 (1-4, 3.12). DHing for Lakeland? Gary Sheffield. Jim Cooper 2 hits, RBI singles for Henry, Cervelli.

A: A bad night for the farm. Charleston lost too. 5-3. 18 year old Jairo Heredia 5 R in 5 IP. (2-1, 2.98). David Williams 2 hits, HR.
