Game 54. Yanks 6, Twins 5. At the 1/3 mark, Yanks at .500, and Moose with 8 wins. Who’d have thought Moose would be 8-4 right now?

what to watch the Moose with
A My9 night. Mussina pitching. How else to enjoy the game but with …. ?

Joba goes Tuesday night vs. Toronto. Guaranteed the Stadium will be jumping. 65-70 pitches, so expect a lot from the bullpen that night. Depends how economical Joba is that night. It could be anywhere from 3 to 5 IP. 1st two guys you see tonight in the 8th? According to Girardi, it’s Edwar and Farnsy.

Recap: It didn’t look good when Duncan made an error (I like Shelley, but how long is his leash?) and the Twins got 4 in the 1st. (BTW, lefty pitcher, no Ensberg. Does Ensberg have any use on this team?). But Moose settled in and gave up no runs over the next 5 innings. The Yanks went up 6-4 and Veras and Edwar (still a 0.00 ERA) worked the 7th before Farnsworth(less) gave up a HR to make it 6-5. The G.O.A.T. (Greatest of All Time) saved the game in the 9th. The ERA isn’t pretty (4.26, 2 of the four runs Moose gave up were unearned), but Moose is 8-4, which meant much celebrating with Moosehead. With the Yanks pounding out 16 hits, the game probably shouldn’t have been as close as it was. Abreu, A-Rod, Godzilla and Melky each had 3 hits. A-Rod, Godzilla and Melky drove in all the runs with 2 RBI each, and Abreu had 2 triples, scored 4 runs and got SB #300 for his career. Jeter however, continues a slump that has him down to .272.

YANKEES
Jeter SS .280-2-25 4 of 5 in SB OPS+ 98 (less than 100?!)
Abreu RF .286-7-34 3 for 6 121
Rodriguez 3B .276-7-17 4 for 4 138
Matsui LF .330-6-24 —– 146
Giambi DH .244-11-27 1 for 2 160 !
Duncan 1B .164-1-6 —— 38 (when will he be the threat against LHP that we were hoping he would be?)
Cano 2B .219-4-19 1 for 4 66 (Needs to get hot)
Molina C .206-0-5 NO WAY 43 (.143 vs. LHP)
Cabrera CF .254-6-21 3 for 3 96 (.175 vs. LHP)
Mussina RHP (7-4, 4.39, ERA+ 92) Leads 2008 Yanks in wins. 257 lifetime.

Next Thursday for Posada’s return?

May be with friends. Looks like it. Feel free to comment.

In case you are wondering, Tabata is in the lineup tonight.

1st. Abreu walks, steals 2nd (#300) and scores on an “excuse me” single by Godzilla.
1-0 Yanks.
Error by Shelley and the floodgates open. A-Rod and Cano can’t get to grounders….Twins score 4. 4-1 Twins after one.

Yanks get two-out hits from Molina and Melky but Jeter strands them. Mussina pitches a scoreless 2nd, giving up a double.

  • 4 Nick.K // May 30, 2008 at 7:58 pm

Its a must win this game (well they all are) with Buchholz and now Dice-K on the DL we need to make ground on the Red Sox

  • 5 mike f // May 30, 2008 at 7:59 pm

hey nick- you’re not kidding- they all are must wins at this point- kinda like last year.

  • 6 Mike Sommer // May 30, 2008 at 8:02 pm

Running out of things to say about Cano, other than WAKE UP (the Sister Mary Elephant version of Wake up, that is…)

  • 7 mike f // May 30, 2008 at 8:02 pm

lets just hope moose is sharp tonight

  • 8 mike f // May 30, 2008 at 8:02 pm

i’m just busting your chops a bit mike :)

  • 9 Mike Sommer // May 30, 2008 at 8:08 pm

Yup. I know. Here is hoping some batters finally start hitting a lefty.

  • 10 SuzyK // May 30, 2008 at 8:09 pm

“joba chamberlain is gonna make his first start as a starter.” i hate suzyn.

  • 11 Mike Sommer // May 30, 2008 at 8:10 pm

Who’s doing the game for My9? Sounds like Paulie w/Singleton and Kay.

  • 12 Mike Sommer // May 30, 2008 at 8:10 pm

LOL…that’s funny, Suzy. BTW, you will get your wish Tuesday.

  • 13 SuzyK // May 30, 2008 at 8:12 pm

dude, I’m psyched. I tend to have that kind of luck. I just happened to have tickets for all of the rookie home debuts last season. Edwar, Joba, Hughes, Kennedy… I even had Clemens tickets, just by chance.

  • 14 Nick.K // May 30, 2008 at 8:14 pm

Suzy your going to see the Yankees on Tuesday

  • 15 Mike Sommer // May 30, 2008 at 8:15 pm

Did I just hear Kay say about Catfish Hunter,

“he gave up a lot of solo shots but didn’t mind if there was no one on base”?

I could swear that’s what he said. I had to do a doubletake.

    And Alex just missed.

  • 16 SuzyK // May 30, 2008 at 8:15 pm

as soon as Kennedy went on the DL, I picked up an extra from a friend of mine, just in case.

  • 17 Mike Sommer // May 30, 2008 at 8:16 pm

    300 steals for Abreu

  • 18 Mike Sommer // May 30, 2008 at 8:17 pm

Rats. Alex smoked it, but L6.

  • 19 SuzyK // May 30, 2008 at 8:18 pm

Refreshing the comments is faster than listening to the radio broadcast. You have to be kidding me.

  • 20 Tim The Wizard // May 30, 2008 at 8:19 pm

Suzyn Waldman’s existence should be erased from the record books.

  • 21 Mike Sommer // May 30, 2008 at 8:19 pm

We’ll take that “excuse me” RBI single

  • 22 Nick.K // May 30, 2008 at 8:20 pm

RBI bloop single for Matsui and the Yankees lead 1-0

  • 23 Mike Sommer // May 30, 2008 at 8:20 pm

I would guess that Uncle Joe likes the Big G’s ’stache.

  • 24 mike f // May 30, 2008 at 8:21 pm

matsui just can’t lose this year!

  • 25 mike f // May 30, 2008 at 8:22 pm

yeah i bet he does-( uncle joe that is)

  • 26 Tim The Wizard // May 30, 2008 at 8:22 pm

Morgan Ensberg is still on the team so I assume Uncle Joe is still going crazy. Prepare to fire on my command.

  • 27 Nick.K // May 30, 2008 at 8:23 pm

That Giambi flyball went a lot further than I thought

  • 28 mike f // May 30, 2008 at 8:23 pm

    but not far enough—-

  • 29 Tim The Wizard // May 30, 2008 at 8:24 pm

Moose throws a whirly bird curve for a K. The weather in India, 100 degree heat and monsoons.

  • 30 Mike Sommer // May 30, 2008 at 8:25 pm

Oops. Not Paulie. It’s Flaherty. I knew it wasn’t Leiter or Cone.

  • 31 Nick.K // May 30, 2008 at 8:26 pm

    Played any Cricket yet Tim

  • 32 Mike Sommer // May 30, 2008 at 8:26 pm

Lovely weather for a wedding. When is it, Tim, tomorrow? Sunday? Or next week?

  • 33 Tim The Wizard // May 30, 2008 at 8:28 pm

The wedding is on the 8th. There are pre and post ceremonies. it will be wild, especially me being the only white guy and the best man.

  • 34 Tim The Wizard // May 30, 2008 at 8:28 pm

I have played a little bit of cricket Nick.

  • 35 SuzyK // May 30, 2008 at 8:29 pm

Tim, at least you get a trip to India out of it. I’m going to an afternoon outdoor wedding in Flordia in August. ugh.

  • 36 Tim The Wizard // May 30, 2008 at 8:31 pm

God damn it Shelly. Take the easy out at first.

  • 37 Mike Sommer // May 30, 2008 at 8:31 pm

Damn it, Dunc. 3-6 force (or possible 3-6-3 DP) and he pulls Jeter off the bag. Bases loaded and 1 out.

  • 38 mike f // May 30, 2008 at 8:32 pm

shelley should be shot for that. WHY don’t we have a real firstbaseman like dougie??

  • 39 Tim The Wizard // May 30, 2008 at 8:32 pm

True Suzy, I am going for a wedding but then I have work in Vietnam, Korea, and Japan.

  • 40 Nick.K // May 30, 2008 at 8:32 pm

Shelley is a worse 1B than Giambi

  • 41 Mike Sommer // May 30, 2008 at 8:33 pm

In India and able to watch the game on computer.

    What’s the time difference?

And a single past Alex ties the game.

  • 42 Nick.K // May 30, 2008 at 8:33 pm

Our defense has been awful lately

  • 43 Tim The Wizard // May 30, 2008 at 8:34 pm

The time difference in India will be 10 hours.

  • 44 mike f // May 30, 2008 at 8:35 pm

now cano can’t get to a ball

  • 45 Tim The Wizard // May 30, 2008 at 8:35 pm

Oh great, here we go again….

  • 46 Mike Sommer // May 30, 2008 at 8:35 pm

Another single. 2-1. I HATE astroturf and this joke of a ballpark (baggy, roof, turf…)

  • 47 Nick.K // May 30, 2008 at 8:37 pm

This is gonna be a long night.

  • 48 Tim The Wizard // May 30, 2008 at 8:37 pm

    Men raise your weapons.

  • 49 mike f // May 30, 2008 at 8:37 pm

i hate the turf too mike, b ut lets get real our defense really is pretty weak

  • 50 Nick.K // May 30, 2008 at 8:38 pm

Mussina might not make it out of the 1st inning again

  • 51 SuzyK // May 30, 2008 at 8:40 pm

    craptastic

  • 52 Nick.K // May 30, 2008 at 8:41 pm

    Nice play, Cap’n.

  • 53 Mike Sommer // May 30, 2008 at 8:41 pm

Good play by Jeter, but 4-1.

    True, Mike.

  • 54 Tim The Wizard // May 30, 2008 at 8:42 pm

Finally over. Time for the offense to go to work and atone for its horrific defense.

  • 55 Nick.K // May 30, 2008 at 8:44 pm

    37 pitch inning.

  • 56 Mike Sommer // May 30, 2008 at 8:45 pm

    How long is Shelley’s rope?

  • 57 Tim The Wizard // May 30, 2008 at 8:46 pm

    Load the guns gentlemen.

  • 58 Nick.K // May 30, 2008 at 8:48 pm

I’ve seen this game before, and I don’t like it one bit

  • 59 Mike Sommer // May 30, 2008 at 8:49 pm

Two on, two out. Tie it up, Captain.

  • 60 Tim The Wizard // May 30, 2008 at 8:49 pm

Where the hell is the plate patience. Cock the guns and fire.

  • 61 Mike Sommer // May 30, 2008 at 8:50 pm

Nope. It’s been bandied about…is Jeter playing hurt?

  • 62 Mike Sommer // May 30, 2008 at 8:50 pm

As you know, I’ve been criticizing Jete’s Plate Patience all year.

  • 63 Mike Sommer // May 30, 2008 at 8:54 pm

Might have been a double anyway, but Godzilla didn’t play that all too well.

  • 64 SuzyK // May 30, 2008 at 8:56 pm

something’s wrong with jeet. i’m not pleased.

  • 65 mike f // May 30, 2008 at 8:56 pm

JD would have had that one

  • 66 Nick.K // May 30, 2008 at 8:59 pm

Who would have thought that Giambi and Damon’s defence would be missed.

  • 67 mike f // May 30, 2008 at 9:00 pm

well we wriggled out of that one. maybe the bats can get going. we’re not out of this by a longshot-

  • 68 Tim The Wizard // May 30, 2008 at 9:01 pm
