Sinatra
Melky, Andy two Yanks “riding high in April, shot down in May.”

Melky Cabrera is down to .248. His March/April numbers? .299-5-12. .190-1-7 in May.
Andy Pettitte was 3-3, 3.93 entering May. 0-2, 5.51 this month.
Jose Molina was .231 (not great, but respectable)-0-2 entering May. .152-0-1 this month.
Johnny Damon was .276-3-12 entering May, .227-2-7 this month.

Hey, a barbershop quartet!

We can’t count the injured A-Rod and Posada. Matsui hasn’t been bad in May, but he has cooled off himself. Entering May: .322-4-13; in May .262-2-7.

Cano and Giambi have heated up, but their overall numbers still look bad because of terrible starts. They had to heat up somewhat in May. They couldn’t get worse.

Cano: Entering May, .151-2-7. In May, .302-2-7.
Giambi: Entering May, .164-5-13. In May, .275-3-8.

Interesting how the Joba transition affects things. From Pete Abraham:

Joba is scheduled to throw in Saturday’s game, about 45 pitches. This suggests to me that they will bump Wang to Sunday (my note: They are.) and pitch Moose on Saturday on short rest after his brief stint on Tuesday (my note: 2/3 IP, 7 R). Moose can go 5 or 6 and leave the rest of the game for Joba. Wang is more likely to go 7.

Watch the dominoes. From Chad Jennings: When Great Britton went back to SWB (for the millionth time), Steven Jackson went down to AA (0-0, 2 saves, 4.40 between AA/AAA). When Dan McCutchen (4-3, 2.52 AA) went up to AAA, Steven White (4-2, 3.55 for AAA) went to the bullpen. Betemit starts a SWB rehab today.

Also from Jennings, regarding Dan Giese: I have no idea how he would do as a big league starter, but he is certainly making it look easy down here.

If you didn’t see it, there is a You Tube video of Girardi’s ejection. Gotta love it.

Knew the Celts would get burned sometime. Now they have to win one in Motown.

The plethora of talented arms is a very encouraging development within the organization. They can never have too many.

On the Celtics, I agree. A game like last night’s was bound to happen, and the Pistons are just too good for some of the defensive lapses–and so many free throw opportunities–to occur. I had to laugh late in the third quarter when, after Allen had already earned his fifth foul, Doc Rivers said in an interview with Michele Tafoya, “I guess the basketball gods are against us.” Huh? Could it not have been Allen getting suckered into doing what a defender shouldn’t, and jump after and into the shooter? It was poor discipline that put Allen, who finally awoke offensively, on the bench, not some divine intervention from the deities of the hardwood. I know he was sticking up for his guy, but come on.

Stuckey was on fire, scoring 13 points in 17 minutes and single-handedly outplaying Boston’s bench. He reminded me of Vinnie “The Microwave” Johnson. The Celtics need to get more from Perkins and the bench. The Big 3 kept them afloat.
