Game 28. Oh, Pooh. Tiggers 6, Yanks 4. Edwar up, Britton down. Hughes? Awful.

tiggerfaceswp

Oh, Pooh. Phil is lousy again.

Recap: Phil Hughes was awful, giving up 6 runs in just 3 2/3 and dropping to 0-4. Since Pettitte goes tomorrow night, the Yanks will conclude April with NO wins from either Phil or Ian Kennedy. We knew there’d be growing pains, but were expecting ERAs of 5 or 5.50 if that occured, not 9.00 or so. After the game got to 6-2 (Robbie Cano had a 2-run HR) in the 4th, the rest of the game was like a slow death. The Yanks left 13 men on base. They got some walks, but impatience and lack of clutch hitting when the men got on led to a 6-4 loss to the Coward of the County. Back to .500…again.

YANKEES
Damon CF (strange, lefty on the mound, yet no Melky, hey, Melky co-leads the team in HR!)
Jeter SS (still with TWO walks; OPS+ 80)
Abreu RF
Matsui LF
Giambi DH (.167; interesting. No Alex, a lefty on the mound, and your 3-4-5 are all lefty hitters)
Duncan 1B (1 for 11. Hopefully the home crowd fires the “Excitable Boy” up.)
Ensberg 3B (1 walk. OPS + 66)
Cano 2B (time to wake up, Robbie– .153; OPS + 19)
Stewart C (welcome to the Bronx, Chris Stewart)

Hughes RHP (0-3, 7.85)

(Hey, we could have went out and got Zito after 2006… $126 million, 0-6, 7.53 after an 11-13, 4.53 in 2007….and to the bullpen…in the NL; You know, the league WITHOUT the DH. Almost makes Pavano look like a steal…)

I see a win by Manchester United today. Nick’s gonna be a happy dude.

Have suitcase, will travel. Larry Brown is back coaching in the NBA.

Chad Jennings of SWB has the latest, and hits the nail on the head regarding the bullpen (emphasis mine):

What was the point? Without ever getting into a game, Chris Britton has been optioned back to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, with Edwar Ramirez going to the big league club. It’s hard to argue that Ramirez doesn’t deserve the call-up, his numbers this year are even more eye-popping than last year, but it does seem odd that Britton never even got in a game for the Yankees. The guy has a history of pitching well in the majors, but the Yankees certainly seem hesitant to give him a shot. Strange indeed.

Ramirez is already gone and I haven’t seen Britton. I doubt he’ll be here for the game. He’ll probably just rejoin the team in Scranton.

I can’t help but wonder if we’ll see stuff like this all season. With Britton, Ramirez, Albaladejo, Jose Veras, Scott Patterson, Ross Ohlendorf all on the 40-man roster with options, the Yankees could just shuttle right-handed relievers back and forth all season, keeping a fresh arm and dumping whoever pitched two or three innings the night before.

As for why the Yankees would have called up Britton in the first place, I can think of only one reason. Ramirez pitched the night before Britton and Jonathan Albaladejo were called up, so he wouldn’t have been available. My guess is, they wanted a guy who would have been ready to pitch two or three innings right away. And Britton would have been had the Yankees needed him (or been willing to use him).

That Israeli Baseball League MVP, C Eladio Rodriguez,  starts and bats 9th for SWB tonight.

Uh, oh. The Yanks need the youngsters to do well, and walk, single, K, WP and single give the Tigers two quick runs. DP.

I can’t stand Rogers. One game this year in 27 where the Yanks have got 10 runs. Time for a second.

Jeter still doesn’t know what a walk is. Abreu and Matsui single, but the big G pops up. End of 1, 2-0 Tigers.

Two outs, single, SB,  K. Much better, Phil. Hard to believe Pudge had only 9 walks all last year. Over 500 AB. Only 9 walks. Some Yanks look like they want to top that.

Robbie wakes up! 2-run HR ties the game.

Uh, oh. Phil gives it right back. HR. Double. WP. C’mon, Phil already. We are rooting like hell for you and Ian to succeed, but we need something BACK here.

Oh, no. 482 for Sheff. 5-2 Tiggers.

The Coward of the County is nibbling. Walks the bases loaded. Cano up, but 2 out. Flies out.

Hello, Darrell Rasner? Hughes pulled in the 4th. 6-2 Tiggers, and runners on… Hughes goes 3 2/3. 6 R (so far), 8 H, 3 walks, 2 K. Very disappointing.

Ohlendorf in and gets the out.

End of 4. As bad as Phil was tonight, the offense is still lousy. If the Yanks are upset at Hughes and Kennedy, they should also be upset at some hitters and hitting coach Kevin Long.

Ohlendorf nice 5th, Yanks offense still lousy, unfortunately. Aaaarrgh. Losing is bad enough. Losing to Rogers? Worse.

Good job by Ohlie tonight. Too bad it was needed. 3 1/3, 5 Ks.

Bad as the kids have been, I think the lack of offense over 28 games is more disappointing. You knew there was a chance the kids would fail, but the offense struggling to score, say, four runs a game? VERY disappointing.

The rest of this game is just D R A G G I N G. Still 6-2 after 7. It’s like Chinese water torture … slow death as the offense just does nothing.

Edwar in.

Bottom 8th. Bases loaded again via walks. 2 out. Jeter HBP brings in a run. Abreu grounds out.
6-3 after 8. RISP w/2 out? Lousy.

Sadie Hawkins in.

This lineup bothers me somewhat, Mike. I would have inserted Melky in center, had Damon in left, Matsui at DH, and Shelley at first with Giambi sitting. I understand having Giambi’s threat of power in the lineup without either A-Rod or Posada, but he’s not hitting much. Matsui should have played instead of sitting those two games, and Giambi has had some brutal moments lately at first. Melky’s had a very good start, is a switch hitter, and has hit for power–but sit him. I don’t agree with the decision but, if they win, fine.

  • 2 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 5:01 pm

Now I see why Giambi’s playing tonight. His career numbers against Rogers are 10-23, 4 HRs, 9 RBIs, 7 BBs. I’m still miffed that Giambi stared at three straight fastballs from The Pine Tar Gambler in Game 3 of the 2006 ALDS. But then again, I’m still laughing at Rogers because the Yankees won every start he made in the 1996 post-season despite his stinking on ice, and not getting the win in any of his three post-season starts.

Molina is 5-12 against Rogers. I know Stewart needs the time to play, but playing the percentages would mean playing Molina as well.

I’ve lost my voice from all the shouting

    hello everyone

  • 5 Tim The Wizard // Apr 29, 2008 at 7:00 pm

The Tigers announcers should be executed.

  • 6 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 7:00 pm

i think they had to sit molina- for fear of wearing him out…

  • 7 Nick.K // Apr 29, 2008 at 7:03 pm

Manchester United beat Barcelona in the semi final to get to the Final of Europe. Got back from the pub not so long ago I lost my voice.

hey that’s great nick! i forgot to watch that game today…

  • 12 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 7:07 pm

i’m totally fired up tim; i want to see him driven from the game near tears by the second inning. i hate that jerk

  • 13 Nick.K // Apr 29, 2008 at 7:07 pm

    Thanks Mike.

  • 14 Nick.K // Apr 29, 2008 at 7:08 pm

Is A-Rod totally out of the game tonight or is he on the bench if needed

  • 15 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 7:09 pm

Congratulations on Man. U. Nick. You must be proud and psyched, and momentarily forgetting your liking baseball more than football, I imagine?

    oh jeeez

  • 17 Nick.K // Apr 29, 2008 at 7:11 pm

Its kind of ironic after me saying that then this happened tonight but I will stay with what I said baseball is number 1.

  • 18 Nick.K // Apr 29, 2008 at 7:12 pm

    Hughes just owned Sheff

  • 21 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 7:13 pm

Hughes made Sheffield the Loser look bad. Good. After all his bitter back-biting toward Torre, Sheffield can eternally go to blazes in my book.

    God damn it Phil.

  • 23 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 7:13 pm

was that a 55 foot fast ball?

  • 24 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 7:14 pm

WP, second and third now. Hughes might be extra careful now with the first open.

Why is Damon out in center?

  • 28 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 7:14 pm

That’s where not having Melky in center hurt. Damon just can’t throw.

  • 29 Tim The Wizard // Apr 29, 2008 at 7:15 pm

    We better maul Kenny Rogers.

  • 36 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 7:17 pm

aside from the utterly lame throw, melky would have made the catch

  • 37 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 7:18 pm

Righties are batting .356 against the Pine Tar Gambler.

  • 38 Nick.K // Apr 29, 2008 at 7:19 pm

I met Curtis Granderson when he was in England last offseason he was doing something for English tv. Really nice guy

  • 39 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 7:19 pm

I agree Mike. Melky probably would have.

  • 40 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 7:20 pm

Good to hear Nick. I think Granderson is a tremendous player.

  • 41 Tim The Wizard // Apr 29, 2008 at 7:21 pm

Derek, it is called taking pitches.

  • 42 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 7:21 pm

that’s cool nick- i like granderson a lot as well. when he was doimng guest spots during the post-season games he seemed very knowledgeable about the game

    great at bat jeter!

  • 43 Mike Sommer // Apr 29, 2008 at 7:21 pm

Righties are batting .356 against the Pine Tar Gambler….by Jason.

…and our co-leader in HR sits. (melky). Meanwhile, the 3-4-5 are all lefties, and Jeter still doesn’t draw a walk. SIGH…

  • 44 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 7:22 pm

Nice going, Jeter. Nice patience. Horrible. I’m sick of hearing announcers characterize this as “aggressiveness.” It’s impatience and not what they need after working Rogers for six pitches in the first at-bat.

  • 45 Nick.K // Apr 29, 2008 at 7:22 pm

He was doing this interpromotional thing this English Cricket and Baseball.

  • 46 Tim The Wizard // Apr 29, 2008 at 7:23 pm

Exactly Jason. Most announcers should just be canned.

  • 47 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 7:23 pm

Around the league. The Pirates lead Johan and the Junior Varisty 1-0 in the top of the 2nd. Doc Halladay is pitching against Lester in Fenway, 0-0.

  • 65 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 7:30 pm

Pine Tar Gambler at 19 pitches. It would have been more if Jeter could have resisted scratching at the first pitch.

6-4 force, but at least Jeter made him throw 4 instead of 1. 2-2, and The Pine Tar Gambler threw 21 pitches that inning–40 total.

  • 99 Mike Sommer // Apr 29, 2008 at 7:52 pm

He was with the Yanks for two years, Nick. 1996 and 1997. 12-8, 4.68 and 6-7, 5.75 or thereabouts. Overall 18-15, 5.35. He was terrible.

Somehow the Yanks won in 1996 despite him.

  • 125 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 8:48 pm

    hey mark-

  • 126 yankeemza781 // Apr 29, 2008 at 8:48 pm

    whats up fellas

  • 127 Tim The Wizard // Apr 29, 2008 at 8:49 pm

    It was with a bat.

  • 128 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 8:50 pm

Nice choice, blunt and effective. I don’t agree with third strike call on Stewart.

  • 129 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 8:51 pm

and poor ohlendorf–again he has to take the fall. pathetic the way he is being abused

  • 130 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 8:51 pm

it looked low to me too jason

  • 131 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 8:52 pm

so i can’t believe they have only scored 2 runs on this loser…

  • 132 Tim The Wizard // Apr 29, 2008 at 8:52 pm

I am heading out for the night. I can’t watch this garbage. I will see you tomorrow night. Hopefully Andy will teach the kids how to pitch.

  • 133 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 8:53 pm

Nothing in the fourth, letting this bum off the hook.

  • 134 yankeemza781 // Apr 29, 2008 at 8:53 pm

same thing different game they haven’t really scored off of anyone lately.

  • 135 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 8:53 pm

Take care, Tim. I’ll have a telethon at The Heartland for some folding chairs for you in the interim.

  • 136 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 8:54 pm

    see ya tim

  • 137 yankeemza781 // Apr 29, 2008 at 8:55 pm

Is it me, because to me Hughes has nothing that wows me.

  • 138 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 8:56 pm

he has nothing this year mark, but i assume you saw him pitch last september and in the game against the indians…
    our only playoff win

  • 139 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 8:56 pm

Miguel Cabrera hustles like Ramirez down to first.

  • 140 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 8:57 pm

    he must be hurt…

  • 141 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 8:58 pm

Hughes is just inconsistent in his location. When he gets behind or misses spots, especially with his fastball, he gets whacked. He has good movement on his fastball, but it’s 91-92, not a Joba fastball.

  • 142 yankeemza781 // Apr 29, 2008 at 8:59 pm

living at 90-91, thats not good enough to be a no. 2

  • 143 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 8:59 pm

Ohlendorf gets Guillen on the back-door fastball inside. Ohlendorf looks sharp after a little rest.

  • 144 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:01 pm

Nice confidence boost for Ohlendorf, getting Ordonez, Cabrera, Guillen and Renteria in quick succession.

  • 145 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:02 pm

    great inning from the O-dog!

  • 146 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:06 pm

Two nice, quick 3-1 outs. Great job.

  • 147 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:06 pm

    go shelley!

  • 148 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:06 pm

Nice double, Shelley. But yet again, the offense, starts with two outs, with no margin for error, no chance for productive outs.

  • 149 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:07 pm

Thanks for the quick 5-3, Ensberg. Just let the slob settle back in.

  • 150 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:07 pm

but thanks to ensberg’s awesome at bat-nada.

this team looks listless at best

  • 151 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:08 pm

    i see it’s still 0-0 at fenway

  • 152 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:10 pm

nice play jeter ( hey , i’ll give him credit when credit is due)

  • 153 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:11 pm

Yeah Mike, Lester and Halladay are locked in a gem–Halladay has allowed two hits, Lester one in the 8th.

  • 154 Mike Sommer // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:12 pm

Ohlie seems ok for the 1st inning he works, but it’s that 2nd or 3rd inning that gets him. He wasn’t supposed to go 3 innings, but look at his outings this year. He’s already had 3 outings of 3 innings or more, and if he finishes this it is 2 1/3….and who knows, maybe he comes back out.

  • 155 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:12 pm

Ohlendorf, six up six down. Good work. The team needs offense after the next out.

  • 156 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:12 pm

i’m surprised to hear lester has been so good.

  • 157 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:13 pm

It’s true, Mike. When he tires a bit his pitches are up, and hitters seem to lay off his slider the more they see it.

  • 158 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:15 pm

Granderson is just all over the Yankees, working his second BB.

  • 159 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:16 pm

he’s a great player for sure- any team would want him.

  • 160 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:18 pm

Ohlendorf has had a good 2 1/3. With the four pitchers used last night, he’ll probably work the 7th.

  • 161 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:19 pm

    yay cano!

  • 162 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:19 pm

Cano, Stewart, and JD. Now’s the time, guys.

  • 163 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:20 pm

Great idea, RC. Swing at the first pitch to the guy who threw about 80 through 4 IP. Nice job.

  • 164 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:21 pm

    4-3, two down. Mustering nothing.

  • 165 Mike Sommer // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:21 pm

Kids not good, but it would be nice if the offense gave them a nice 8 runs in the first two-three innings sometime to give them a cushion.

    Blame all around.

  • 166 Mike Sommer // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:22 pm

3 up, 3 down. Bats silent again.

  • 167 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:22 pm

i’d rather have lost the game to aaron laffey than this jerk

  • 168 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:22 pm

yeah mike, you’re right…blame to everyone

  • 169 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:23 pm

I agree Mike. The offense has been a dog for much of the first 28 games. Hughes struggled, and might have anyway with run support. But it sure would be nice to see the kids–everyone, really–pitch from a few runs ahead for a change. That’s just not happened much at all this year from this “vaunted offense.”

  • 170 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:26 pm

Hey Giambi, when you go to the wall for a foul ball, do it like Ensberg did–with effort, actually getting to the wall.

  • 171 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:27 pm

he may be slacking j with that new contract

    :)

  • 172 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:27 pm

ohlendorf is sure taking one for the team tonight. he gets my respect

  • 173 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:27 pm

Big-time kudos to Ohlendorf, fanning that jerk Sheffield.

  • 174 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:28 pm

You know, Mike, half a billion just doesn’t buy what it used to.

  • 175 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:29 pm

    ain’t it the truth batman…

  • 176 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:31 pm

That’s so much fun, getting a foul ball off the mask.

Flaherty is right, foul balls off the mask usually–usually–don’t hurt. I used to catch way back when, and it never hurt. Of course, the ball hitting lots of other places did.

  • 177 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:32 pm

heck of a job. he needed this confidence builder. it’d be nice to somehow get him a well deserved win

  • 178 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:32 pm

Yes, Ohlendorf! Yeoman’s work through 3 1/3 IP, getting 5 K’s and sparing the bullpen.
    Way to bounce back, kid.

  • 179 Mike Sommer // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:32 pm

Ohlie 5 Ks. Great job in 3 1/3.

The kids have been disappointing, but going into the season, I think everyone knew the possibility was there that they might fail. It’s still disappointing, but not unexpected.

Which makes the failure of the offense MORE disappointing.

  • 180 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:33 pm

yeah but mike lets get real, none of us expected phil to be this bad, c’mon…

  • 181 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:36 pm

    Jeter, Abreu, and Matsui.

  • 182 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:37 pm

Jeter was very late on fastballs at 90 and 88 mph. I suppose it looks faster than Rogers and therefore requires adjustment, but Jeter looked like he was facing Nolan Ryan.

  • 183 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:38 pm

    boston just won. damn

  • 184 Mike Sommer // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:39 pm

Nope. Not him or Ian. You figured you’d have at least ONE win from either of them by now, didn’t you?

  • 185 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:39 pm

I was just about to write that, Mike.

  • 186 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:40 pm

I knew the two would struggle, just not this badly. I thought they’d be up and down, not just down.

  • 187 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:40 pm

    a hit! a novelty!

  • 188 Mike Sommer // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:40 pm

You could see struggling and 5.00 ERAs early, but not ERAs this high…hitting the 9’s and above…

  • 189 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:41 pm

Matsui is one guy who has consistently hit. He should be playing every single day.

  • 190 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:41 pm

yeah, maybe we’ll get something from ian in two days

  • 191 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:41 pm

oh please…DFA that man will ya?

  • 192 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:42 pm

    G, that is

  • 193 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:43 pm

Giambi just really bothers me. I’ll cheer if he does well because I want the team to win, but watching this once-great hitter having devolved into a cheap, steroid-ridden one-trick pony to the tune of over $100 million makes me absolutely sick. On days like today from that tomato, his contract can’t be done fast enough.

  • 194 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:46 pm

    Edwar the Stick fans Renteria.

  • 195 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:46 pm

at this point it might be detrimental to let hughes get beat up too many more times.

    they have to try rasner

  • 196 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:48 pm

Nice piece of hitting from Rodriguez, belting a change low and in to deep left-center.

  • 197 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:49 pm

That’s my concern too, Mike. Allowing Hughes to keep getting abused isn’t good for the kid. And he’s getting abused.

  • 198 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:51 pm

    Nice work, Edwar.

  • 199 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:52 pm

i’m also not sure the “tough love” approach from girardi will be better than , say, torre’s fatherly demeanor. remember when he came out to IPK on the mound spewing fire last week?

  • 200 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:57 pm

nice to see shelley making a case for himself tonight

  • 201 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 10:01 pm

I think the Tough Love works fine from us, but Girardi needs to shelter the kids somewhat. At times, a stern talking-to is fine to get one’s attention, especially to get someone focused. But on the whole, the kids are trying hard. They’re just doing poorly.

  • 202 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 10:01 pm

A double and three walks from Shelley the Invincible Marauder.

  • 203 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 10:02 pm

meanwhile, he’ll no doubt be relegated to the bench again for giambi tomorrow.

  • 204 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 10:02 pm

Cano chased that 1-2 badly, way out in front with his body and lunging way outside the strike zone.

  • 205 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 10:04 pm

Giambi is 0-3 tonight, failing to hit a guy against whom historically he’s 10-23. Sit him for a week, and not just because of tonight. Let him pinch-hit.

  • 206 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 10:06 pm

i hated hearing some of those “fans” booing hughes as he slunk off the mound

  • 207 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 10:07 pm

Yeah, it gives the Yankee Haters ammunition to attack the fan base as a whole because of a smattering of impatient losers.

  • 208 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 10:08 pm

it’s a shame cano couldn’t have taken advantage of this pitchers inability to throw strikes.

leyland looks like he needs a cigarette

  • 209 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 10:08 pm

BB loads the bases for Jeter, the tying run.

  • 210 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 10:10 pm

a flicker of hope glows within me…

  • 211 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 10:10 pm

HBP makes it 6-3, go-ahead run in Abreu up.

  • 212 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 10:10 pm

    Fan the ember, Mike.

  • 213 Mike Sommer // Apr 29, 2008 at 10:11 pm

HBP with bases loaded. It’s sad when 2 of the last 8 runs you score have come via that route.

Yeah. I hear a little bit. Fans are already mad because of no Santana.

  • 214 Mike Sommer // Apr 29, 2008 at 10:12 pm

Just got off the phone with you-know-who. He isn’t happy, and he has never been a Hughes fan.

…and you know HE isn’t patient.

  • 215 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 10:12 pm

it’s nights like this mike that make me wish for a little santana myself…

  • 216 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 10:12 pm

    HA!

  • 217 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 10:13 pm

    kill me now please

  • 218 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 10:14 pm

Well, so much for that, 12 LOB now.

  • 219 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 10:14 pm

Would that be The Truth, Mike?

  • 220 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 10:15 pm

    it must be jason

  • 221 Mike Sommer // Apr 29, 2008 at 10:17 pm

    The one & only.

  • 222 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 10:18 pm

    i’d love to boo sheff

  • 223 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 10:20 pm

Polanco came in batting .174, and was 0 for his last 16, but gets four hits against the Yankees. Leave it to them to warm up the coldest of the opposition.

  • 224 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 10:20 pm

I’d boo that jerk all the way through his at-bat. I have no respect for that zero.

  • 225 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 10:21 pm

that’s the yankees this year…a welcome wagon in the bronx

  • 226 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 10:22 pm

shelley gets pulled of the bag, but makes the tag…great work from the pen…but they will be utterly worn out soon

  • 227 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 10:23 pm

Kudos to Hawkins getting the DP, and the bullpen was great in relief of Hughes.

Todd Jones is just an older version of Joe Borowski. How this guy does it, I don’t know–high ERA, high WHIP, lots of runs allowed for a so-called closer.

  • 228 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 10:23 pm

I fear that about the bullpen too, Mike.

  • 229 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 10:27 pm

BB to Matsui to lead off the 9th.

  • 230 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 10:28 pm

    WP moves Matsui to second.

  • 231 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 10:28 pm

please just take a walk G- you can’r hit anymore

  • 232 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 10:29 pm

    oh my–

  • 233 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 10:29 pm

What do you know, Big G’s single down the right-field line scores Matsui, tying run up in Shelley the Invincible Marauder.

  • 234 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 10:30 pm

ahh shelley, this woulda been a good time to be patient

  • 235 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 10:30 pm

5-4 force, Giambi out for Ensberg. Watch out if he gets something out over the plate to extend his arms.

  • 236 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 10:30 pm

what is UP?? they know he cant throw strikes?

  • 237 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 10:31 pm

So much for that, oh and nice patience Ensberg. Two down.

    Can Cano tie it?

  • 238 Mike Sommer // Apr 29, 2008 at 10:31 pm

Now Pete Abe is picking on Freddy Sez.

Freddie is a soon-to-be 83 year old who has the signs and the lucky pan.

…and because he has 300+ saves, in 10 years, some bozos will be pushing for Todd Jones as a HOF.

  • 239 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 10:31 pm

    and yet they swing away

  • 240 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 10:31 pm

i saw that mike- it made me fume

  • 241 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 10:32 pm

    cano sucks

  • 242 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 10:33 pm

Cano fans to end the game, 6-4. More too-little, too-late from the offense.

  • 243 Jason // Apr 29, 2008 at 10:35 pm

I’m going to get cracking on the wrap and such, guys. Thanks for hosting Mike, and tend to that back.

  • 244 mike f // Apr 29, 2008 at 10:37 pm

thanks mike, night jason- i’ll check in at the heartland later.

  • 245 Mike Sommer // Apr 29, 2008 at 10:39 pm

Will Do. Take care. Time to check the minors. My recap is up.
