Where’s the Proof(reading)?

I look at a paper today and see the following:

In an article about Marlin Jackson signing with the Eagles, it is stated that he intercepted a Tom Brady pass late in the Colts’ 38-34 AFC Championship victory over the Patriots in January 2006. It then states that the Colts went on to defeat the Bears 38-24 in the Super Bowl. The real final score of SB XLI was Colts 29, Bears 17, and the play took place in January 2007, not 2006.

The same paper had a story on Kyle Drabek. The story had Drabek’s name spelled correctly, but the header spelled it “Drabeck.”

Where’s the proof(readers)? All too often it seems, newspapers pick up UPI or AP stories verbatim, without checking for accuracy. They just run with it instead of verifying the facts.
