Penn State women’s volleyball did something tonight previously unprecedented.
Back to back undefeated seasons.
Three national championships in a row.
The streak of 102 consecutive matches won lives on.
IT WAS AS HARD AS IT COULD BE.
The Lady Lions LOST the first two sets. … of a best of five. Meaning that they had to win each of the last three sets.
In the last set, which goes to 15 points (the others are 25, have to win by two), the Lady Lions were down to Texas 11-10. They came back to win 15-13.
If you missed it, you really missed something.
In baseball, Boston’s possible pursuit of Adrian Gonzalez hit a snag. For the Red Sox, if pursuing Gonzalez, it meant the trade of Lowell to Texas had to go through, Youkilis moves to 3B and the Bosox try a deal with SD for Gonzalez.
But the deal didn’t go through. Mike Lowell’s thumb injury is a torn ligament, thus negating the deal. He’ll be operated on after Christmas, and recovery time is six to eight weeks.
Maybe Lowell goes later. Maybe the Red Sox get Gonzalez later. … but not right now.
