Baseball News Booming Today

Jason Bay apparently turned down the Red Sox offer, so the Red Sox turned their attention to pitching, signing John Lackey to a five-year deal. He’ll join a rotation featuring Beckett, Lester, Bucholz, Dice-K and apparently Wakefield (unless Wakefield is bullpen bound; he is a free agent, but can’t see him anywhere else). After giving Lackey five years, I’m interested to see what happens when Beckett hits the market next year.

The Angels are rumored to be in hot pursuit of Godzilla. 1 year, $6.5 M. This would mean the end of Bad Vlad’s Angel run.

The hot word right now is a 3-way deal which would send Roy Halladay to the Phils and Cliff Lee to Seattle. All the particulars have to come in, but my first reaction is that it’s nice for the Phils to get Halladay, but wouldn’t you want to pair him with Lee? It seems like a wash to me. The only thing sensible (from ESPN) is that Halladay is going to sign a 3-year extension with the Phils and apparently the Phils couldn’t lock down Lee. But if that is the case, what will Seattle do with Lee if he will walk? Prospects are supposedly headed to Toronto.

Seattle is apparently intent on making moves. First Figgins, now Lee. There is a lot of talk that they are hot for Jason Bay. Now does Beltre go to Seattle or is he splitting? (There are Boston rumors, but the Lowell deal would have to be completed first). If Beltre and Lackey, would there be Boston money left over for Holiday if he turns down the Cards?

Meanwhile, Matt Holiday is apparently still deciding whether or not he’ll take the Cardinals offer.

In other news, apparently Kate Hudson and A-Rod split up. I just hope Alex isn’t now looking for Tiger to fix him up.
