Managers of the Year: Scioscia, Tracy

Information also from MLB.com:

Mike Scioscia of the Angels, who won the AL West and got to ALCS vs. the Yankees, was named AL Mgr. of the Year today. Ron Gardenhire was 2nd. Yankee skipper Joe Girardi was 3rd. Scioscia had to pull together his team after the tragic death of pitcher Nick Adenhart in April–killed along with others by a drunk driver. Gardenhire had to go to a 163rd game and a great comeback in the final weekend to get the Twins the AL Central, but like the Angels, the Twins went down to the Yankees. Scioscia received 15 first place votes and 106 points. Gardenhire had 6 first place votes and 72 points. Girardi 4 first place votes and 34 points. Don Wakamatsui of Seattle was fourth (2 1st place votes) and Ron Washington (1) of Texas fifth.

As MLB.com states, besides the loss of Adenhart (forever), the Angels dealt with other pitching issues as Lackey and Ervin Santana both missed time.

In the NL, the award went to Jim Tracy of the Rockies. He took over the Rockies from Clint Hurdle in May when they were 18-28. Tracy went 74-42 and got the Rockies into the playoffs as the wild card. He was a runaway winner, getting 29 of the 32 first place votes. Tony LaRussa (2) was second and Joe Torre (1) finished third. Five other managers got some consideration, although no first place votes.

Yanks going for Doc? I’ll believe it when I see it, but after the Yanks dumped David Wells (along with Homer Bush and Graehme Lloyd) for Clemens after the 1998 season, I guess anything is possible. MLB.com has:

Halladay greetings in NYC?

The rich could get a lot richer, according to SI.com’s latest report of the Yankees having talked to the Blue Jays about the availability of ace Roy Halladay. The article also states that new Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos would not rule out making a trade within the American League East, which means that the Red Sox could be in play for another round of the storied New York-Boston rivalry.
You can only imagine that Halladay would cost an arm and a leg and…
Update: …and as Chad Jennings of LoHud states, why wouldn’t the Yankees “kick the tires…”?
