Deals, and Rosters Expand.

Teams have to have players on today in order to have them eligible for the postseason roster.

A couple players cleared waivers and were dealt right before this deadline.

As Pete Abraham reports, the weekend sweep by the Yankees forced the White Sox to throw in the towel. At least Ozzie Guillen got his wish by not having to watch Contreras (a star for him in 2005) start anymore. Contreras was dealt to Colorado.

Jim Thome and his 564 career HR was dealt by the Chisox to the Dodgers. It’ll be interesting to see how Thome (LA) and Giambi (Colorado) are handled in the Dh-less NL.

The Dodgers also picked up Jon Garland off of Arizona.

As for the Yanks, expect Ramiro Pena, Cervelli, Edwar, Albaladejo and Melancon. We’ll see if anyone else is brought up as rosters expand.
