Andy Pettitte pitches tonight for the Yanks in Baltimore. He is looking to pass Lefty Gomez and go into 3rd on the Yankees win list by himself, behind only Whitey Ford (236) and Red Ruffing (231).
Andy has 189 wins as a Yankee, same as Gomez. He has 226 overall. You wonder what if… he had stayed with the Yankees and not have spent those years in Houston.
Derek Jeter has 2710 hits, eleven shy of Lou Gehrig’s Yankee record of 2721. Yankee fans would hope that Derek ties and breaks the record on, say, Labor Day, when the Yanks return home for a DH vs. the Rays.
It’s one thing to try to predict when Derek will pass Gehrig. The only thing is, when you usually do that Jeter one-ups you and accomplishes it before the prediction.
As hot as he is, he could do it next weekend in Toronto.
