I probably won’t post much on this one. Work 1-10, so by the time I get home to watch the ESPN Sunday night game, they’ll be late into the game. Then I am scheduled to work 8-7 tomorrow so I can’t stay up until the end. I gotta get to bed.
I say scheduled because I have to see if I get time to attend an aunt’s funeral tomorrow.
Update: They gave me the day off to attend the funeral.
Time for Wang to get his first win of the year.
Pete Abraham reports that now the flu bug (which hit Damon, Melky, Matsui, Tony Pena, Jeter, Matsui…) has now hit Hughes.
Recap: Hughes somehow still was able to pitch, and gave 1 1/3 of scoreless relief.
The Yanks got three in the first, Teix hitting a two-run double, then basically went to sleep with the bats.
Wang pitched what may be his best game of the year, going 5 1/3, 2 R, 4 H, 3 walks, 3 K and a HBP. The ERA lowers to 10.06. Still ugly, but … for Wang, he can’t look at the ERA but just take things one game at a time. Coke came in, one batter and a K. Hughes went the 1 1/3, then Bruney put the Yanks in a bind. He did get two outs but he walked two. In came Mo, looking for save #500. Wright was able to steal third, but Mo was able to K Santos.
The 9th. Wang’s first win of the year and Mo’s 500th career save at the ready.
Better yet! Mo has to hit with the bases loaded, and he draws a walk from K-Rod. Class triumphs over non-class. Mo with the RBI!
His first RBI in the game where he gets save #500. Beautiful.
Even more beautiful was watching all his teammates hug Rivera in congratulating him for #500.
Minor league report sometime later, if at all. You’ll understand if there isn’t one today.

Mike: My sympathy to you on the loss of your aunt. Two of my aunts on my father’s side died younger than usual, at the ages of 59 and 77 respectively. Glad they gave you the day off.
Great win for the Yanks. Congrats to Mariano. I watched most of Friday’s game, was at Miracle League and the IronPigs on Saturday (although I heard the post game show on radio), and saw the first seven innings of Sunday night’s game on ESPN; listened to the last two on radio (John and Suzyn).
Hope to see you at the next meeting–July 7th. Are you going on any other bus trips this year? I may get to one if they have any cancellations.

Thanks, Joe. My aunt battled cancer for a number of years.
And I found out this week that an uncle (not her widower) is seriously ill with stomach cancer. A rough week.
I should be at the 7-7 meeting. I have one more trip planned. 7-18, Saturday. Yanks hosting the Tigers.
