Game 50. Yanks @ Cleveland. Youth not served. Yanks fall 5-4.

Well, Cleveland now has just the Indians to worry about as Lebron and the Cavs were eliminated.

It’s Disneyland (LA…close enough) vs. Disney World (Orlando) for the NBA title.

Work today, long day tomorrow. Brief reports.

YANKEES (29-20)
Jeter SS
Damon LF
Teixeira 1B
Rodriguez 3B
Cano 2B
Matsui DH
Swisher RF
Gardner CF
Cervelli C

Pitching: RHP Phil Hughes (3-2, 5.16).

Day game after night game. Posada gets the day off.

Yanks try to pound Pavano into submission.

Next Sunday I see the new Stadium for the first time.

Update: Hughes continued to be inconsistent. You don’t know what you’ll get from him when he takes the mound. He does turn 23 in just a few weeks so hopefully consistency will come with maturity. He K’d six in 5 ip, but gave up 4 runs.

One run came when Gardner misplayed a ball (Gardner also was supposed to steal in the 9th. He didn’t go and it cost the Yanks as Posada GIDP). The Yanks got into a 4-0 hole, but battled back to tie on a 2-run HR and 2-run double by the red-hot Teixeira. An encouraging sign was Wang pitching three scoreless innings of relief. Pete Abraham reports that Wang feels better than he ever has since the injury and that he feels he could give 80 pitches next time out and 100 the time after that. We’ll see how fast the Yanks put him back in the rotation.

Phil Coke started the 9th and fizzled. A big no-no in walking the #9 hitter who was hitting .170 at the time. Eventually David Robertson gave up the winning hit to Jhonny Peralta, who had 3 of Cleveland’s 5 RBI.

The Yanks tied a major league record by having this be their 17th consecutive errorless game.

The Yanks had a 17-11 May after a 12-10 April.
