Longer NFL season? Say it ain’t so

So I go on ESPN MVP and see that NFL Commish Roger Goodell is lobbying for a longer NFL season. Maybe 17 or 18 games.

Tell me, outside of extra revenue for the league and teams, who this helps?

In a violent sport, one filled with many injuries, one in which players deal with many chronic, long-term injuries after they retire, does it help the players?

Sure, the players might earn more money (you would hope with an extra game or two that they do), but with that extra game or two, how much more susceptible to injury would that tired player be?

For the players’ sake, no. Unless the NFL wants to take out that much more health insurance.

It’s fine as it is. Leave it alone. Don’t succumb to greed.

To the NBA:

If the Celts don’t make it, I gotta admit I’ll root for Cleveland. Hey. The city hasn’t won a title since December 1964. A couple of times the Browns got close. The Drive. The Fumble.

In 1997 the Indians were three outs away.

Hey, no offense to my bro-in-law or my nephew out in LA (and a Celtic fan would have trouble rooting for the Lakers anyhow), but if the Celts can’t make it…go Cavs.

Meet the Author:

Peter Handiros, author of the upcoming book ‘The Truth About Ruth (And More):  Behind the New York Yankees’ Greatest Myths, Legends, and Lore’ will be at

Borders Books at Park Avenue & 57th Street, midtown Manhattan

Thursday, April 2nd

7pm

After the event, there will be a complimentary bar reception, so hopefully it’ll be a good night for fans of Yankee baseball and/or free drinks.
