Invitees

Pete Abraham has a list of 20 non-roster invitees to Yankees camp over at his blog. As far as the catchers, remember that someone needs to warm up all the pitchers. Note Shelley Duncan.

I read somewhere that the odds of Andy Pettitte coming back are now less than 50-50.

According to Chad Jennings’ SWB blog, the Orioles signed Justin Christian to a minor league deal.

MLBTR states that Paul “free as a” Byrd is going to pull a Clemens. Sit out the first half then join a contender. It looks like Geoff Zahn will be an Oriole. The Mets signed Alex Cora. Omar Vizquel could be SD bound. Scott Podsednik to the Rockies.

…and MLBTR states that the Yanks could be one of the teams interested in taking a flyer on Freddie Garcia (although I don’t believe or trust much of what Jon Heyman ever says, so take it with a grain of salt.)

Garcia would be a rehab project. He went 17-9 with the White Sox in 2006, ERA 4.53 (ERA+ 105) but since then has only pitched 73 MLB innings, 2-6. 1-5, 5.90 in 11 games for the Phils in 2007 (ERA+ 78) and 3 games with the Tigers last season. (1-1, 4.20, ERA+ 106). He will be 34 in June and has a career mark of 118-77, 4.07 (ERA+ 111). Depends on the price. Could be worth a shot, depending on how he feels and how he looks. We’lll have to see what the scouts say. Postseason experience. Seattle 2000 and 2001, White Sox 2005. 6-2, 3.11 in postseason play. How healthy is he? Hey, compared to Jason Johnson….
