Happy New Year

Here is wishing you all the very best for 2009.

It’s amazing how time flies. 2009 will mark 50 years since the Go-Go Sox

Go-Go Sox of 1959

40 years since these things:

1969 Amazin' Mets
SB III
Man walks on Moon
Woodstock

30 years since Disco Demolition Night
Disco Demolition Night and
Iranian hostage crisis
and the loss of
Munson

(and it’s 30 years since my high school graduation…don’t expect to see a photo of me back then! :-) )

and 10 years since we were starting the countdown of the end of the 1900s.

Time flies.

The one thing baseball-wise that is amazing as we start the new year is the crop of free agents who are still unsigned. While we could sing the Beatles “Baby You’re a Rich Man” to CC and Teixeira, Clarence “Frogman” Henry’s “Ain’t Got No Home” could be the theme song right now of many free agent stars. Still unsigned are Manny, Lowe, Abreu, Jason Giambi, Hudson, Dunn, Burrell, Pettitte, Sheets…and many others. It’ll be interesting to see how January develops regarding the signings and how many of the signings come very, very close to the start of spring training.

So enjoy the games today and start the new year off right. I’ll be rooting for PSU in the Rose Bowl, Dante will probably do the same with Va. Tech and the Orange Bowl. All the best.

I was around for all those events. Sad to say, the world hasn’t changed much—we just get the news a lot faster. AND I don’t have that Vette convertible, I skipped Woodstock for, working OT so I could earn the $ for the down payment.
