Apparently the Yanks do have limits. Earlier this week, Hal Steinbrenner said that there would be a drop-dead date regarding the Yanks’ offer to C.C.
Now, apparently, there is a limit to how many years the Yanks would go with A.J. According to this article, Burnett is seeking a five-year deal, and that is something the Yanks won’t touch, even though they are willing to go six years with C.C. Sabathia. It looks like Burnett’s history and the Yanks’ recent episode with Carl Pavano have created caution in the Yanks’ universe.
While it looks like defending champion Japan will have Dice-K and Ichiro for the World Baseball Classic, another Japanese star won’t make it. Hideki Matsui’s rehab is going well, but he won’t be ready in time for the WBC. Click the link for Bryan Hoch’s report.

I have said it before and I will say it again. I would not give a five year deal to a guy who has only thrown 200 innings a contract year. I do not care how good his stuff is because he needs to toe the rubber every fifth day.
While I like the idea of the WBC I do not want any of our players coming off injuries to participate. Which means, Posada, Wang, Matsui, and Joba should all be barred from participating.
J-E-T-S, JETS! Jet Favre and the New York Bretts are 8-3, same as the Steelers.

Nice game taking out the Titans, Tim.
From what I read, Posada and Rivera won’t be ready for any WBC work either. The Yanks would probably prohibit Wang. Joba would like to participate, but I wonder if the Yanks would allow it.
Alex and Jeter supposedly want in.
