Yanks bring back Marte on a three-year deal with option.

From Pete Abraham.

Like Pete says,

Brian Cashman didn’t trade Jose Tabata and the three pitchers to let Marte go after two months.

I don’t know if the Yanks want to use Coke as a starter or as a lefty complement to Marte in the bullpen. I’m kind of hoping Coke serves as the lefty complement (I almost wrote condiment….thinking food and beverage here) and that they have two lefties in the bullpen. After seeing some of the lefties trotted out after the heyday of Mike Stanton, Coke and Marte should be an improvement.

Re-signing Marte was absolutely the right move. He has been death on left handed hitters. The past three seasons he has held lefties to a .284 OBP and .277 slugging.

We all know how the Yankees have been looking for capable lefty relievers since 2003. I am sure we all remember the likes of Alan Embree, Buddy Groom, etc.

…and more. Chris Hammond, Felix Heredia, an over-the-hill Jesse Orosco, Gabe White, Ron Villone, … feel free to add…

Hey Mike just heard the Yanks have made a trade for Swisher. I think the trade is antoher steal like the Nady one. I really like it. Wilson Betemit, minor leaguers Jeff Marquez and Jhonny Nunez are going to the White Sox.
