Two minor leaguers. It looks like a patented Florida salary dump.

In the ROY vote yesterday, Joba Chamberlain received one vote for third place.

NL CYA TBA later today.

Boston pitcher Jon Lester won the 2008 Hutch Award for courage. The award is named for ex-pitcher and manager Fred Hutchinson, who died of lung cancer at the end of 1964. He managed for most of the 1964 season before his illness got too severe.

Brooklyn Dodger legend Preacher Roe died at the age of 93. He was 127-84 for his career with an ERA of 3.43 (ERA+ 116). Cards 1938, Pirates 1944-1947, Dodgers 1948-1954. He went 22-3, 3.04 in 1951, when he finished 5th for the MVP vote. He retired before the CYA was created. Besides the 5th place finish in 1951, he finished 16th and 17th respectively in 1949 and 1950, and 29th in 1952 for the MVP award. He was 19-11 in 1950. He started three WS games and relieved in two others, going 2-1, 2.54.

The Padres pulled an offer to 41 year old Trevor Hoffman. The all-time saves leader (554) was 3-6, 30 saves, 3.77 (ERA+ 101) in 2008. Twice the future HOF finished as the runnerup for the NL CYA. He is 56-66, 2.78 for his career. ERA+ 144.

Gotta go…later.
